Innovative Software Solution Optimizes DOCSIS 3.1 Networks, Boosting Bandwidth Efficiency and Network Resilience.

Alpharetta, GA (March 4, 2024) – ZCorum, a leading provider of managed broadband services and fiber diagnostics tools, has introduced a Profile Management Application (PMA) solution under their PreEqualization Analyzer brand designed to unlock the full potential of DOCSIS 3.1 networks.

PMA addresses the pressing need for increased upstream and downstream capacity on DOCSIS 3.1 networks by automatically adjusting cable modem modulation profiles for optimum performance. By enabling 3.1 modems to connect at the highest order modulation profile, PMA can increase the capacity of an operator’s OFDM/A Channels by up to 40% over the baseline configuration.

PMA works by leveraging advanced algorithms to analyze RxMER for every cable modem on a node, while taking into account any existing impairments that are impacting the signal for each device. By determining the optimal modulation profile for each modem, PMA ensures that 3.1 cable modems connect at the optimum modulation profile possible, maximizing network capacity and efficiency. This tailored approach immediately increases the capacity of DOCSIS 3.1 networks, delivering significant performance gains. The application is also designed to run in a closed-loop, automated process, which allows it to make continual adjustments to cable modem profiles to ensure optimal performance as plant conditions change.

“PMA is a game-changer for cable operators as they seek to increase speeds for subscribers by harnessing the full power of their DOCSIS 3.1 investment,” said Arthur Skinner, ZCorum’s Vice President of Sales. “PMA not only increases capacity on the DOCSIS 3.1 network, but as more 3.1 modems reliably connect to OFDM/A channels it reduces utilization on the SC-QAM channels, marking a significant advancement in cable network optimization.”

“With PMA we’re empowering cable operators to enhance the speed and reliability of their broadband offering over their existing HFC plant,” said Julie Compann, ZCorum’s President and CEO. “By automating the optimization of modulation profiles and adapting dynamically to changing conditions they will see an immediate improvement in capacity and continued network efficiency.”
