The DOCSIS Proactive Network Maintenance software helps cable operators find and fix issues before subscriber services are affected.
Alpharetta, GA (April 13, 2015) — ZCorum, a leading provider of managed broadband services and diagnostics, announced today that their PreEqualization Analyzer software is on a shortlist of products for a SCTE Europe Technological Innovation Award for best Digital Processing Solution. The awards showcase products, systems or concepts that have demonstrated technological innovation in the broadband arena. ZCorum’s product ranked as one of three finalists for the award.
ZCorum’s PreEqualization Analyzer, a DOCSIS Proactive Network Maintenance (PNM) tool made by Nimble This and powered by CableLabs, uses pre-equalization data from cable modems to identify devices being impacted by issues in the upstream cable plant. The software also uses sophisticated algorithms to determine the approximate location of the problem. “By leveraging the pre-equalization coefficients returned by cable modems, PreEqualization Analyzer can detect impairments like Micro-reflections and Group Delay, giving the operator valuable information on where and when to dispatch resources,” said Brady Volpe, President and Founder of Nimble This. Volpe is also a member of the CableLabs InGeNeOs™ group, which focuses on PNM development.
“I am very happy to see technology based on DOCSIS PNM being recognized at the SCTE Europe Innovation Awards,” said Alberto Campos, Distinguished Technologist at CableLabs. “Proactive Network Maintenance can have a significant impact on a cable operator’s organization, giving them an opportunity to address issues in advance as part of routine maintenance, rather than reacting to a service-impacting event after the fact.” Campos started the PNM effort at CableLabs more than ten years ago, leading the first PNM working group there, and presented the concept of PNM at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo for the first time in 2008.
“Our customers have already had great success using PreEqualization Analyzer to find and fix problems they weren’t even aware of,” said Julie Compann, President and CEO at ZCorum. “We’re honored to be one of the finalists for the SCTE Award.”
